Anzac Day Poppy Art

Earlier this term as part of our topic focus on Anzac Day our students painted some fantastic poppies in a style of their own choice. Some students opted to paint beautiful flowers to represent the gardens of the families who were waiting back in New Zealand. The students really enjoyed this activity and as you can see created fantastic works of art!

Doug the Digger

On Wednesday of last term we had a special guest visit our junior school. Mr Mac (Alistair McIntyre), the author of Doug the Digger visited our school in his very large truck as part of our Duffy Books in Homes programme. It was really interesting to hear how Mr Mac became an author. It was also great to see his original writing drafts and sketches and to see how they developed over time into a published book. We have some fantastic authors in Room 7 and I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them become published authors in the future!

Hut Building in our Gully

In the last week of Term 1, R7 together with a few students from R5, spent time in the gully making huts. Our learning focus during our hut making related to two of the Key Competencies – Relating to Others and Managing Self. The students were told that if they had problems whether it be about building their hut or with their team mates they had to resolve the issues independently. It was a very worthwhile experience and one which the students absolutely loved! I was very impressed with their problem solving and ability to collaborate with others.

Hockey Big Day Out

On Monday of our final week of Term 1, Rooms 6 & 7 had an awesome time at the Hockey Big Day Out held in Ngatea.  All the students seemed to love the opportunity to have a go at hockey while at the same time having a fun but competitive game against another team.  Our students demonstrated good sportsmanship and gave it their very best effort.  Well done!
